Service Description

One of our newest instructors, Phil Holeman, was formerly a pen & ink/watercolor artist and textile designer. Unfortunately, a life-changing stroke at the age of 48 left Phil with limited use of his right hand. While in recovery, he came to us for some "clay therapy" and has found a way to stimulate his creative mind by making these beautiful prayer bowls. Phil has overcome and adapted to so much in the last 15 months. Pottery is his "therapy" now and he has been quite busy making these bowls for family and friends. He is a survivor! Phil has graciously agreed to teach us how to make his beautiful textured bowls! Using slabs of clay and a balloon, he will explain how he arrives at the simple and organic shapes. We will roll out clay into slabs and texture them with materials or stamps. Then we will lay the clay on the balloons and shape the bowls. You will choose a glaze color, and we will glaze them and fire them for you. They can be picked up in 3-4 weeks.
